The Mason-Rice School is located in Newton Centre. It was built in 1959 to replace two older schools, the Mason School and the Rice School, hence the name Mason-Rice.

Located on Pleasant Street, Mason-Rice is less than five minutes from all that Newton Centre has to offer. Newton Centre features coffee shops like Tatte, the iconic Rosenfeld’s Bagels, mainstays like Johnny’s Luncheonette, JP Licks, newcomers like Salt Patisserie, and so much more.
With its location, you might think Mason-Rice is one of the larger elementary schools in Newton, but in fact it’s the opposite. Some 334 students attend Mason-Rice, an average of 55.7 students per grade.
The school itself is setback from the action and abuts Newton Centre Playground which features a school age play area, two basketball courts, and a sand volleyball court. Newton Centre Playground is four acres and in the winter is often a place kids go sledding.
Homes in Newton-Centre are highly coveted due to the location and convenience to the MBTA Green Line D Train which runs to the Longwood Medical Area and into downtown Boston. The homes are often quite large, beautiful, and of the Victorian variety. This is a very desirable part of the city to live in, and demand for homes is generally abundant.
