If you are a commuter to Boston, Underwood is conveniently located by the Massachusetts Turnpike on-ramp, and a number of buses (57, 501, 504 heading East, and 52, 504, 553, 554, 556 heading West). The 57 bus goes through Brighton en route to Kenmore Square in Boston; the 501 runs express through Brighton to the Copley Square and financial district areas; and the 504 also runs express from Watertown to the Copley Square, Chinatown, and financial district areas. In short, this is a convenient school for anyone who commutes to Boston after dropping off their child at school.
Underwood is situated in Newton Corner close to a variety of restaurants, grocery stores, and shops on Washington Street. The school is a buffer zone school meaning families living in part of Newton Corner attend either Underwood, Ward, or Cabot Elementary School. Families on both sides of Route 90 (the Mass Pike) attend Underwood including some families that live on the border of Brighton near Oak Square.
Underwood was built in the 1920’s and the city is considering a slew of improvements to modernize the facility.
Students at Underwood utilize the park along Vernon and Eldridge Streets.
Housing in the Underwood district varies from grand, single-family homes to great condominiums.
