Williams Elementary School serves some 211 students from the Auburndale area, a village in the far western part of Newton. Located less than half a mile from the MBTA Green Line D Train stop at Riverside, with its location on Grove Street, the school is centrally located in relation to Route 128, the Mass Pike, Newton-Wellesley Hospital, and Commonwealth Avenue. Grove Street runs directly to Route 128 and over the Mass Pike. It’s less than a five minute drive to all of the places mentioned above.

The Williams School is a short distance from Commonwealth Avenue, not far from Waban, and close to restaurants and grocery stores on Washington Street including Star Market, The Knotty Pine, Bruegger’s Bagels, and more.

Built in 1950, Williams School was the first new school building constructed in Newton after World War II. In the 1980’s Williams was in danger of being closed due but after a spirited effort by the Williams community, the school was spared, and the PTO even built a new playground in 1995. A major building renovation was completed in 2001 with a new wing containing three classrooms, a library, art room, and offices added to the current building. In addition, the original auditorium was restored in full.

The Williams School park is 1.1 acres and equipped with school-age play area with swings, softball field and basketball area in the school courtyard.

Homes in the area are attractive, and generally come with a good amount of land. In short, this is a nice place to live if you’re looking for a home with a big yard.
