The Fessenden School is a boarding and day school for Pre-Kindergarten through 9th grade boys, located in West Newton. The school is divided into a lower school (K-4), middle school (5-6) and upper school (7-9).
In 2024-25 some 544 students attended Fessenden; 204 in the lower school; 204 in the middle (5-6); and 210 in the upper school. 100 students were enrolled in the boarding school. The average class size was 12.
Boasting a 41 acre campus, Fessenden first opened its doors in 1903 and is the oldest all boys junior boarding school in the United States.
The school features a number of activities and programs for students including sports, robotics, video production, woodworking, performing arts, musical groups, and theatrical productions.
Fessenden is 1.5 miles from Cabot’s, close to Washington Street and the Massachusetts Turnpike. It’s also close to Route 16.
Bus service to and from school is available for students from Arlington, Belmont, Boston, Brookline, Dorchester, Lexington, Mattapan, Newton, Wellesley, and Winchester. Options include daily round-trip service as well as morning only or afternoon only.
In the summer, Fessenden doubles as a summer camp for boys and girls from 3.5 years through 10th grade.
