Newton Private Schools

Private school is a popular option for Newton families. In 2023-24, 23% of kids that live in Newton attended private schools, among the highest percentage of any city or town in Massachusetts.

The cost of private school ranges in price but in general families can expect to pay between $55,000 to $65,000 to send their children to a private school in Newton or any of the surrounding areas, and the cost seems to increase 2-3 percent per year.

There are more than 10 private schools located in Newton or Chestnut Hill, a village located partially in Newton, Brookline and Boston. The most well-known are Beaver Country Day School, Brimmer and May School, Chestnut Hill School, Fessenden, Jackson School, Newton Country Day, Schechter, and Wellan Montessori School.

Not all families send their kids to a private school in Newton itself. Some opt for schools nearby. Winsor, British International School, Buckingham Browne & Nichols a.k.a. BB&N, Belmont Hill, Dedham Country Day and Kingsley Montessori School are all popular private schools not far from Brookline.

Newton provides transportation for students via bus to some of the private schools in the city including Fessenden, Jackson, and Newton Country Day. The cost to take the bus is $400 per year and there is a $800 family cap. Anyone wishing to ride the bus must complete the bus registration. The list of bus stops is large. Clearway School is a small, private school in West Newton where students with learning disabilities achieve academic and personal success. It’s a nonprofit day school for 7th to 12th graders with language-based learning disabilities, nonverbal learning disabilities, dyslexia, and other similar special needs.

Fusion Academy in Newton opened in 2018 as Fusion’s 49th campus nationwide. Fusion Newton is a private school where classes are one-to-one: one student and one teacher per classroom. The Teacher/Mentors can personalize curriculum and pacing for their students’ strengths, interests, and learning style. Students may attend full-time for middle and high school or part-time with classes for credit, tutoring and mentoring, post-secondary counseling, and more.

Fusion Academy is located on Needham Street in Newton Upper Falls, near the border of Needham, and close to a lot of commercial activity.
