Located on the corner of Beethoven Avenue and Beacon Street, Zervas Elementary School is situated in Waban, just down the road from Cold Spring Park and Newton Centre. It’s conveniently located close to Route 9 and Route 128, less than a five minute drive to each.
With a total enrollment of 399 students, Zervas is one of the largest elementary schools in Newton.
The school was originally constructed in 1954 but underwent a major renovation a few years ago, and reopened in the fall of 2017. It was originally called the Beethoven School after the street it’s located on, but the name changed when Principal Frank Zervas passed away unexpectedly.
The MBTA Green Line D train stop at Waban, and the 59 Bus at Beacon Street and Walnut Street that runs from Watertown to Needham with stops in between are the closest public transit stops.
The Zervas School playground is an acre and features basketball courts, playground, soccer field and play area with swings.
Zervas is located in a highly-desirable part of Newton due to its proximity to Waban, Newton Centre, and Newton Highlands. Real estate in the area consists of a mix of beautiful single family homes and condominiums. And there are a number of commercial businesses along Beacon Street including Bill’s Pizzeria, Sycamore, and Four Spoons Thai Inspired Cuisine and Bar, to name a few.
