With 249 students, Peirce School is one of the smallest Newton Elementary Schools based on enrollment. In this day and age, it’s rare to find a two-section school, but Peirce is predominantly that.
Located in West Newton, on Temple Street, Peirce School is basically equidistant between the on-ramp of the Massachusetts Turnpike and Commonwealth Avenue (a tad closer to Comm Ave.), and less than half a mile to the 505 bus stop at 1600 Washington Street. The 505 goes to downtown Boston.
The Peirce School park is two acres and consists of a school-age play areas with swings (on the corner and out back behind the school), a junior baseball field, elementary soccer field and small basketball court, and a paved play area (hopscotch, four-square, etc.)
Opened in 1951, the Peirce School replaced the old building on Chestnut Street, and is now located close to McGrath Park, one of the parks that hosts youth soccer games in the fall and spring. It’s also quite close to Braeburn Country Club, just down Temple Street on Fuller Street.
Homes in the Peirce School district are quite attractive and many offer a good amount of land. Most of the homes are single-family homes.
The Peirce School district is quite residential and commercial activity is accessed mainly via car.
