Angier Elementary School is the oldest but among the newest elementary schools in Newton. First constructed between 1919-1921, Angier was rebuilt in 2016 and is one of the most modern elementary schools in the city.
Located in Waban, across the street from the Waban T-Station (Green Line - D), the school serves some 383 students. Angier is located on Beacon Street right around the bend from the center of Waban, which is home to the Waban Library and a number of local businesses including the very popular Barry’s Village Deli, Starbucks, and Stone L’Oven Pizza. Although it’s on Beacon Street, a heavily trafficked road, the school is setback from the street and has a convenient pickup and dropoff circle keeping children safe.
The high school reflects the high value the town holds for education. BHS has a tradition of excellence and innovation, which has earned a national reputation. The student body is diverse in terms of race, nationality, culture, and socio-economic strata. Students come from over 69 countries and speak 44 different languages.
Angier is a 3 minute drive to Newton-Wellesley Hospital and a 3 minutes drive to Route 128. It’s also close to Route 9 in the opposite direction or you can access Route 9 from Route 128 by driving one exit South.
Homes in the area are beautiful, many of the brick Tudor/Colonial variety, and mostly single-family. There are a number of pretty side streets off of Beacon with beautiful homes. The homes on Beacon Street are also quite attractive. These homes typically provide a good amount of land too if you’re looking for a home with a backyard.
