Day Middle School is located in Newtonville and serves some 860 students from the Northern part of Newton. It is the largest middle school in the city based on enrollment.
Day was renovated and expanded in 2013. The expansion included the addition of six classrooms, five new small learning spaces and a new entrance.
Day students have the opportunity to participate in a number of athletic programs after school. Fall sports include Cross Country, soccer, flag football, and ultimate frisbee. Basketball is offered in the winter along with a ski club that goes to Wachusett Mountain. And in the spring, baseball, softball, lacrosse, and track and field are available.
In addition, Day has a number of clubs that meet before and/or after school. Finally, there is also a drama program with classes for all three grades during the school day, as well as a full year of productions that rehearse after school.
Situated north of Washington Street and the Massachusetts Turnpike, Day is about a half mile away from the abundance of businesses that operate on Washington Street, including Cabots, a popular spot for ice cream and food, Whole Foods, Star Market, and Mida.
The Framingham/Worcester line commuter train stop at Newtonville is also about a half mile away. That line goes to Boston Landing, an area of Brighton that has exploded in recent years (the Celtics and Bruins both practice on Guest Street), Lansdowne Street (Fenway Park), Back Bay and South Station in Boston.
The 556 Bus stops at Walnut Street and Linwood Avenue and is the closest MBTA bus stop to the school; the 59 bus stops at Walnut Street and Watertown Street, roughly a quarter of a mile away from the school; and the 553 and 554 stop at Washington Street and Walnut Street is about a half mile away.
