Located in the western most part of Newton and situated on 10 acres in the village of Auburndale, the Burr School serves some 350 students. This two-story school in a picturesque neighborhood backs up to a large playground area complete with one and a half basketball courts, two soccer fields that hosts youth soccer games, and a fun playground with climbing structures for children.
The main entrance to the Burr School is on Pine Street, which is accessible directly from River Street or off of side streets that connect to Lexington Street or Auburndale Avenue.
Burr School is surrounded by trees on three sides, and there are residential homes on Pine Street and the streets connected to Pine.
The 505 bus stops at the intersection of Lexington Street, Freeman Street, and Auburndale Avenue and is less than half a mile to Burr School. It originates in Waltham and makes express stops along the way to Federal Street at Franklin Street in downtown Boston.
There are many lovely, single-family homes and condos in the Burr School area located on quiet, residential streets. Some of the closest to the school are on Washburn Avenue, Newell Road, and Orris Street. But that’s a very small sampling of streets in the Burr School district.
