Auburndale, located along the Charles River, near the intersection of the Massachusetts Turnpike (route 90) and Route 128, borders Waltham and is one of the most western points of Newton. Affectionately known as Auburn Village, it is a charming and historic neighborhood that offers peace and quiet to residents, a strong sense of community, and a number of outdoor activities for those that crave an active lifestyle.

Schools

Schools in Auburndale are excellent! The Newton Public School District is known for its strong educational programs and commitment to student success. Most public elementary schoolers in Auburndale attend Burr Elementary but some go to Williams. Sixth, seventh and eighth graders go to the Day Middle School and most high school students enroll in Newton North. There are some exceptions as there is a sliver of Auburndale that is considered to be in a buffer zone.

Fessenden and Newton Country Day School are the closest private schools in the city, but others like the Jackson School aren’t far. Auburndale is also home to Lasell University, adding a collegiate atmosphere to the neighborhood. In reality, families that send their kids to private school don’t confine themselves to only those that are in the area. Some elect to send their kids to schools in neighboring towns. Some popular private schools nearby include: Beaver Country Day (Chestnut Hill), Brimmer and May (Chestnut Hill), Park School (Brookline), Dexter Southfield (Brookline), Buckingham Browne & Nichols (Cambridge), Noble and Greenough (Dedham), Belmont Hill (Belmont), and Rivers School (Weston).

Parks & Green Space

Auburndale is home to beautiful parks and green spaces. The Auburndale Cove, located along the Charles River, is particularly popular for its picturesque views and walking trails. It’s an ideal place to jog, bike, picnic, and canoe. In addition, The Cove offers basketball and tennis courts, a playground, softball field and more. If that’s not enough nearby Norumbega Park is famed for its conservation land, offering more opportunities for outdoor activities and nature exploration. If you’re interested in taking advantage of the Charles River and going kayaking or canoeing, The Charles River Canoe & Kayak Company offers rentals in the spring, summer and fall. Located on Commonwealth Avenue, the historic boathouse is situated on a six-mile stretch of flatwater with little current.

Auburndale is also home to Woodland Golf Club. One of Greater Boston's most prestigious clubs, Woodland features a beautifully maintained 18-hole course and much more.

Public Transportation

The MBTA’s D-branch of the Green Line starts and ends at Riverside Station in Auburndale and provides direct access to downtown Boston making stops along the way in other parts of Newton, Chestnut Hill, Brookline, the Longwood Medical Area, and Fenway Park. In addition, there are several bus lines that connect Auburndale to other villages in Newton as well as the greater Boston area.

Hospitals

Newton-Wellesley Hospital is another landmark worth highlighting because its main campus borders Auburndale and is easily accessible by car or the D-Line.
